Couchcation: The Last Leg
On to Vancouver where we found a one-bedroom apartment on the busy main street of Robson, a short distance from Stanley Park where we see a black squirrel (!) and visit the local aquarium. In my travel log, I gave it an A+, and I’m not an easy grader. Just two days before our visit, a baby Beluga whale was born in the aquarium, the first in Canada. They were so excited about this event! The staff had a video camera in the tank so visitors could observe it and we were told that it was still searching for its mother’s mammary glands.
One of the most interesting excursions of this trip was the Boat-Train daytrip along the scenic splendor of spectacular Howe Sound. We took the Royal Hudson steam train on the first part of the trip and the Britannia ship back. Along the way we were treated to magnificent views.
Our last day in Vancouver was taken up with a visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery where a special exhibit featured the works of Andy Warhol.
In Seattle we enjoyed the Klondike Gold rush Museum (a National Historic Park) in Pioneer Square and, of course, Pike Street Market, where vendors toss large fish in the air and to each other to entertain tourists. We were, indeed, entertained!
And, finally, we sent the Alfa back on a small truck transport (only 4 cars) and we went home by plane. The photo below, with word balloons, is from my album, of course.
Whew! We’re exhausted. Time to open up a new album and re-live another vacation … Norway? Sweden? Denmark? Iceland? Nova Scotia? We’ll just have to see what we’re in the mood for. Meanwhile, look for my next blog … it will NOT be a Couchcation, but thanks for coming along with us on this one!
